What is cartography?

Cartography is the science/art of creating maps or map-like materials.

Who was Nicolaus Copernicus?

Nicolaus Copernicus was Polish mathematician and astronomer, who lived on the break of the 15. and 16. century.

He introduced the heliocentric system as the revolutionary idea at his time, where the Earth is no longer the centre of the solar system.

What is the Copernicus programme?

The Copernicus programme is the continuation of the European Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) founded in 1998. It focuses on monitoring the Earth, gathering, analyzing and distributing information about our planet for any EU citizen to use free of charge.

The are numerous applications for the Copernicus programme, ranging from environmental studies to civil protection.

It is coordinated and managed by the European Commission. The core infrastructure related mostly to developing and operating the various satellite platforms is managed by the European Space Agency (ESA)...

How can I access the full resolution of the images?

(For Mozilla Firefox)

Simply click the download button at the top left of the preview page (with the details of the picture), it will open the image in its full size first instead of downloading it. Should you zoom in you should be viewing the image at your desktop resolution.

You can then proceed to download by right-clicking and saving the image as if you want to.

Where can I get a poster/printed version of the data?

You are most welcome to download and distribute the maps by yourself, however I am aiming to launch an e-shop offering high quality printed posters of presented materials.

The data is accessible for free to all.
